Linked accounts enable pre-departure route change notifications for blocked tail numbers
HOUSTON – October 17, 2013 – ForeFlight, creator of the award-winning flight planning app for Apple iPad and iPhone, and FlightAware, the popular global flight tracking service, announced today a new capability that enables delivery of expected route alerts to ForeFlight Mobile for blocked tail numbers. This feature is available to ForeFlight Mobile Pro customers who also participate in FlightAware’s selective unblocking service. ForeFlight and FlightAware accounts are easily linked via the online ForeFlight Manage web application.
“ForeFlight’s mission is to delight pilots and operators with apps that improve flight planning efficiency, enhance situational awareness and in-flight productivity, and do our part to make every flight a joy,” says Tyson Weihs, ForeFlight co-founder and CEO. “Our collaboration with FlightAware allows us to deliver expected route notifications to customers that would not have otherwise received them due to their flight tracking privacy settings.”
ForeFlight Mobile’s flight alert feature notifies pilots on their iPad or iPhone when air traffic control issues an expected route for an IFR flight plan filed using ForeFlight Mobile. Tapping on the push notification or the email link automatically loads the expected route into the moving map and updates flight plan information stored in ForeFlight Mobile. A link is also provided on the File & Brief tab within ForeFlight Mobile for tracking on FlightAware.
“ForeFlight is a great partner for FlightAware to continue innovating how we leverage our data to improve flight operations,” explains Daniel Baker, FlightAware CEO. “Having access to amended routes before getting into the cockpit is a huge benefit for pilots and being able to offer that to operators of blocked tail numbers is a huge differentiator for both FlightAware and ForeFlight.”
The ForeFlight Mobile and FlightAware integration will be on display at the ForeFlight booth (N3404) and the FlightAware booth (C9836) at the National Business Aviation Association Convention & Exhibition, October 22 - 24.
